I'm going through my pictures and came across these...
It was Christmas 2005. Kelsey was 8 and Hailey was 7. We were spending a few days in Yakima with Bj's dad.
When the girls and I go shopping, it's usually to the Supermall or Target. Neither store is multiple levels and therefore have no escalators. Prior to this trip, my kids had never really seen an escalator, or been on one.
Kelsey saw this escalator in the Union Gap Mall and was mesmerized by it. She wanted to go on that "ride." So, we took her up the escalator and then of course we had to take her down again. After the first trip up and down, we planned on continuing with our shopping, but Kelsey asked if she could ride it again. So again, we went up the escalator and down again. She insisted on going again, this time she went by herself. I don't remember how many times she went up and down that escalator, but she got so good at going up and down, she thought she'd be brave and do it with no hands.
There were no lines and it was an inexpensive way to entertain my daughters (I think it cost me a pretzel and soda when we were done)...the joy and happiness it brought to Kelsey (and the adults) was priceless.
